Silk and Steel (2018)
This work is about planes and how they can be extrapolated. Planes are present in any kind of furniture making, and to think about planar geometries in silk has been an interesting challenge - and one I was interested in posing to myself.
One of the things I found most interesting about this body of work was to see how it seemed to want to escape from the wall. Indeed, several iterations of these planar constructions share this formal idea of wings and flight, but the lightness and ephemera of the materials and pale colors contribute to this idea as well. The strong presence of shadows this work have become sources for drawings I have made since. My coexhibitors, Alex Loos and Kevin Busta, made furniture with extraordinary vision and insight, with serious consideration to materials and processes.
